Some educational classes are FREE while others have minimal fees. Several of the classes are limited to participant and class size, so review each offering carefully. Additionally, there will be classes that are offered by other institutions, such as the Maryland Cooperative Extension (MCE), the Washington County Master Gardeners and groups across the State of Maryland such as the Maryland Department of Agriculture and other states.

Maryland Rural Enterprise Development Center Co-Sponsors Food for Profit

Food for Profit is a one-day workshop designed to help you work through the maze of local and stateregulations, food safety issues, and business management concepts that all must be considered in settingup a commercial food business. The course will be held at the Washington County Agricultural Education Center, 7303 Sharpsburg Pike (building door #4), Boonsboro, MD 21713 on Tuesday,February 28,2012 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This session of Penn State Extension’s popular course isco- sponsored by the Maryland Rural Enterprise Development Center and University of Maryland Extension.

How Can Food for Profit Help Me?

Food for Profit will take you step-by-step through the entrepreneurial process. It will provide you withthe information and skills to assess if your idea will be something that will sell at a profit.  Conducting afeasibility study (to see if yours is a good business idea), performing marketing research, and beginningto draft a business plan are a few of the concrete tools taught by certified instructors and businessexperts. By attending this class, you can learn how to evaluate the opportunities on paper before youlook for funding or take action (saving money and time).
